I regret I do not know the criteria under which the illustrations were chosen. It is however remarkable that there seems to have happened a mistake with the King of Diamonds: on one side Rembrandt is shown as a German! And on one side of the Queen and Jack of Diamonds are costumes from Alsace, more a wish than reality - or just the clinging to yesterday: the Alsace was French since the World War.
