Iron Horse Playing Cards

This pack was produced c. 1880 by the New York Consolidated Card Company (NYCCC) in New York. It is called
(These are the front and back of the box and in the middle the Ace of Spades.)

This is an advertising pack for the Baldwin Locomotive Co. of Philadelphia, PA. From 1873 to 1890, the official name was Baldwin Locomotive Works Burnham, Parry, Williams & Co., and as this name is shown on the Ace of Spades, the pack must be from that period.

At the bottom of the Ace of Spades is 'U.S.1-1861', but this cannot be a date. If anybody has an explanation, I should appreciate to get the information.

It is a pity that the cards are so soiled, but I like them, anyhow.
